National Men Make A Difference Day For Academic Success
Hello Engaged Parents and Dedicated Educators,
My name is Dr. Michael A. Robinson. I am the creator of the National Men Make A Difference Day For Academic Success. I began this initiative in 2009 while working in the18th largest public schools system in America. My initiative was not supported by top administrators, but was welcomed by principals, teachers, counselors, and school based personnel. The day was a magnificent success, despite the lack of involvement or support from district leadership more than 10,000 fathers and significant male role models participated.
Over the past several years after Prince George’s County Public Schools eliminated its parental engagement program, I continued my push to increase the involvement of men and as a result I turned my initiative into a national movement. Last year, in the 2nd year as a nationwide effort to have men involved an estimated 125,000 fathers and significant male role models in 16 states participated in Men Make A Difference Day held on October 10, 2011. This year, we are looking to double that number. Research has shown a father’s involvement in a child’s education has multiple layers of positive benefits.
The overall goal of National Men Make A Difference Day For Academic Success is to increase male parent involvement, while seeking to increase the number of men who join PTAs/PTOs or become teachers. There is a role for fathers in their children's education and that role can have a positive impact on their achievement. However, for National Men Make A Difference Day For Academic Success to truly impact the lives of children across America, I need the support of engaged parents and dedicated educators like YOU! There are so many ways you can assist in making the 2013 National Men Make A Difference Day For Academic Success another remarkable showing of the powerful partnership between HOME and SCHOOL.
